Recent tax proposals in California and New York are pushing billionaires to Florida, where lifestyle perks and tax benefits are attracting high-profile figures.

According to the latest data from the Bank of Italy and ISTAT, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows into Italy reached €23.1 billion in 2023, a sharp rebound from the previous year, with the UK remaining the 4th largest foreign investor in the Italian economy.

"People were working from home, there were people starting to become what we call digital nomads, and people realized they had more flexibility in life," Speer said.

Some buyers want a residence permit and eventual permanent residence in the European Union. Others want the cheapest citizenship, faster visa-free travel, or a place to obtain residency while they build a business.

As this cohort of workers expands, so does exposure to foreign exchange costs, often in ways that are not immediately visible. Many digital nomads are paid in one currency, hold savings in another, and spend across several more.
