Kip Lewis had seven tackles, including two sacks, and No. 11 Oklahoma stunned fourth-ranked Alabama 23-21 on Saturday to send shock waves through the Southeastern Conference. The Sooners (7-2, 4-2 SEC) had three takeaways -- scoring 17 points off those turnovers -- and got a key stop late to end Alabama's winning streaks of eight games overall and 17 at home.
"We're up two scores last week at Georgia -- where they never lose except Alabama -- and we didn't finish it off," Kiffin said afterward. "We got knocked down. And so that same situation happens today on the road; [ranked] team, No. 1 defense in the country. Can we be stronger in those situations, especially defensively? For that to happen, it's really cool."
But Stoops had led them to a decent 7-5 campaign in 1999, and with quarterback Josh Heupel slinging the ball around more than 35 times per game -- a huge average for both college football in 2000 and for a former option football capitol like OU -- the Sooners had a fun offensive identity. They were solid and interesting again, but how good were they, really?
This season, the Lancers' success can be attributed to the exceptional performance of Kai Minor, who has not only excelled with a .535 batting average but has also demonstrated remarkable skills in the outfield, making her a two-way asset for the team.
