John Mateer underwent a successful procedure in Los Angeles to repair a broken bone in his right hand, performed by Dr. Steven Shin. Mateer will miss about a month after suffering the injury in the win over Auburn. Mateer has completed 67.4% of his passes for 1,215 yards and six touchdowns this season and leads Oklahoma with 190 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. He ranks second nationally with 351.3 yards of total offense per game. Coach Brent Venables announced sophomore Michael Hawkins Jr. will start the Oct. 4 game against Kent State. Oklahoma faces Texas on Oct. 11 and closes the regular season with five consecutive games against ranked opponents: Ole Miss, Tennessee, Alabama, Missouri and LSU.
