Guy Cogeval, who was director of Paris's Musée d'Orsay from 2008 to 2017, died on November 13 at the age of 70. His death, after a long illness, was reported by on November 17. An iconoclastic, and at times controversial, figure in the museum world, Cogeval was an impassioned scholar of 19th-century art whose specialty was the Nabis, a group of French Post-Impressionist painters active in the late 1800s.

At this time, Louis Marchesano, deputy director of curatorial affairs and conservation, will lead day-to-day operations at the museum while we identify an interim director and chief executive. As this is an internal matter, we are limited in what we can say. The board of trustees is focused on fulfilling the museum's mission as we enter our 150th year. We are not providing further comment at this time.

X ZHU-NOWELL was appointed executive director and chief curator of Shanghai's Rockbund Art Museum (RAM) in January 2025, after serving as its artistic director since 2023. From 2014 to 2021, they were an assistant curator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, where they commissioned "Wu Tsang: Anthem," 2021, and contributed to exhibitions such as "Art and China After 1989: Theater of the World," 2017-18.

Kiendl served most recently as the chief executive and executive director at the Vancouver Art Gallery (VAG). He was selected from more than 100 candidates in an international search and was the unanimous choice by the committee, according to MCA Denver board chair Steve Cohen. "Denver has a growing, thriving, diverse population and it's very important that the museum serve all the constituents in our local community," Cohen says.

Brian Ferriso, director of the Portland Art Museum since 2006, is resigning to become director of the Dallas Museum of Art in Texas. Oregon Public Broadcasting broke the story Friday morning, Aug. 20, citing a press release from the Dallas museum. Ferriso, who has spent the past several years guiding the Portland museum's massive, $111 million redesign and addition, will leave after the unveiling of the completed project on Nov. 20, and will take the reins in Dallas on Dec. 1, 2025.
