Before you start getting any big ideas about jumping chairlifts at your local ski resort, know that this video was carefully orchestrated by Red Bull on a closed course under the close supervision of Mammoth Mountain and should not be attempted by the skiing public.
The skier, who has not been identified, was attempting a run called Dropout 2 - among the steepest marked trails in California - which descends from the summit ridge of the 11,000-foot mountain. The run falls about 1,200 vertical feet below a slow, three-person lift that ferries expert skiers to some of Mammoth's most adventurous terrain.

After a shaky start to the season for most of the West, Mammoth Mountain is opening tomorrow, Thursday November 20, for the 2025-26 season. Today, the resort announced on social media its available terrain for skiing and riding. Lifts: "Huge thank you to our Snowmaking Team, Operations Team, and everyone else who worked hard to get us ready for Opening Day," the resort wrote on Instagram.
