Bernie Rosow, a cherished skier and Mammoth Mountain employee, died unexpectedly while backcountry skiing on Bloody Mountain. He collapsed after reporting back pain during a climb with friends. Despite immediate calls for help, rescue efforts were unsuccessful. His partner indicated that the family awaits an autopsy to determine the cause of death, suspected to be heart-related. Rosow, originally from Vermont, became known for his skiing skills after moving to Mammoth Mountain, where he initially lived in a tent while seeking work.
