Simpsons Tavern has been open in its narrow alley location since 1757 and was famous for its unfussy food and much more, its determined retention of 19th-century dining, with communal tables shared by diners. Like most restaurants, Simpsons was forced to close during the pandemic lockdown and had previously said it was seeking to negotiate a rent settlement with the landlord, who was still demanding payment in full. Since then, they've been stuck in a legal dispute with the landlord.
The City of Pasadena and the Rose Bowl Operating Co. filed a preliminary injunction and temporary restraining order Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court seeking to prevent UCLA from leaving the Rose Bowl or terminating its stadium lease until pending litigation against the school is resolved. The filing contends that the plaintiffs would suffer "immediate and irreparable harm if the status quo is not preserved during the pendency of this lawsuit." A hearing has tentatively been scheduled for Wednesday morning.

A Faraday Future electric SUV caught fire at the startup's Los Angeles headquarters early Sunday morning, leading to an explosion that blew out part of a wall, the fire department told TechCrunch. The fraternity, Sigma Chi, wants Stanford to pay at least $35 million for not allowing members to move back into 550 Lasuen Mall, where they had been since 1937. That's how much buying new land close to campus and constructing a new building would cost, the lawsuit said. Sigma Chi said its parent corporation has invested an estimated $46 million in the house, and the lease was "renewed indefinitely" in 1976.
