While some teams are really stretching the inspiration for these kits -- and who can blame them, having to come up with a new one each year and pretend they have some deep, local meaning when sometimes they just did something they thought looked cool -- others have found some truly delightful wells from which to draw from. And in the end, it's really just about whether it's a good look anyway.

The German national team have perhaps the greatest history of football shirts, and have led the way for football fashion with Adidas for years. They deserve to be named beside Brazil when it comes to iconic kits. While there have already been leaks on what Germany will wear on the pitch during matches in North America this summer, there have now been leaks on what the guys will wear pre-match.

The kit, which combines a white base with black sleeves and neon yellow detailing, was worn for the first time in Saturday's 2-0 Bundesliga win over Heidenheim. But instead of excitement, its debut was met with anger in the stands and online. Fans unfurled banners blasting it as the cruelest jersey in the league while chants of We want black and yellow jerseys rang out before kick-off, a pointed reminder of the club's traditional colours.

The kit is a love letter to Highbury, Arsenal's former stadium, to mark the 20th anniversary of the club's last season at their spiritual home.
