Once a London district made up of neon-lit sex shops and late-night clubs, King's Cross has been polished by regeneration, yet here, the curators draw on the history of the space to choreograph a dialogue between art, architecture, and the city, attempting to explore how contemporary artistic practices might inhabit, and even provoke, the residues of urban change and regeneration.
Deep in the grimy, dimly lit back roads of King's Cross is a pub, a boozer in the truest sense of the word. McGlynn's, it's called, and when its landlord Jerry died in 2023, the pub died with him; it became just another ex-pub in a city full of ex-pubs. It was a special, unique place, a surviving slice of pre-gentrification London where you could still get a round in without taking out a mortgage,
A man protesting about freedom in Iran has scaled the King's Cross clock tower while holding a dog. The activist, wearing a black T-shirt with the slogan no to war, has unfurled a banner featuring the words Freedom for Iran and Iran belongs to its people.
