The Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a 5-1 defeat against the St. Louis Blues, highlighting their ongoing struggles this season.
Joseph Woll was arguably the story of the game. Coming off his worst performance of the year, Woll delivered an emphatic response, making 39 saves on 41 shots, while saving nearly a goal above expected at 5-on-5, via Natural Stat Trick. Scott Laughton opened the scoring, connecting on a tic-tac-toe sequence with Calle Jarnkrok and Steven Lorentz. Simon Edvinsson equalized in the final minute of the first frame, and the remainder of regulation was scoreless.
Prior to Tuesday night's game against Chicago, the Leafs will honour their long-time play by play voice as part of "Holy Mackinaw Night." Bowen, who's called over 3800 games for the Maple Leafs, will be retiring at the conclusion of this season. We talked about that, Joseph Woll, and Anthony Stolarz in the opening block of the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. After missing four games with a lower body injury, Woll will make his return.
The opening frame represented the Toronto Marlies' best chance to take anything from this game. After surviving a barrage in the opening five or six minutes, the Marlies generated a plethora of quality scoring chances. A lack of traffic in the crease and some subpar finishing led to only one Toronto goal. Ultimately, the Maries' performance in the second period sealed their fate.
I have a few thank yous I want to make sure I say, mainly to the Leafs organization, starting with Brad and working all the way down, for all of the support they've given me and my family for the last little bit. I have really been blown away by how much support I've received, and with that, a big thank you to my teammates as well. I have expressed that to them, for all of the support they've given.
