Angelenos may experience record-high temperatures early in the week, followed by a significant temperature drop.
Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist, Miriam Bradbury, stated, 'Heatwaves are less about how high those peak temperatures are going to get and more about how long the really hot conditions are going to last.'
The city of Los Angeles will open cooling centers in South L.A., the San Fernando Valley and the Eastside to provide a break from the extreme heat expected in the region. Temperatures are forecasted to reach 95 to 105 degrees in L.A. County and 100 to 110 degrees in the Antelope Valley, with the weather service expecting a cool down by Wednesday.
