Jaxson Dart is the captain now, and he has a firm grip on the starting job. Dart has flashed immense promise and, while not perfect, has helped put the Giants in position to win games... right before his defense gives up the lead. Sound familiar? Containing Dart and his ability to improvise outside of the pocket is key to limiting his effectiveness.

The Giants and the Chiefs arrive in Week 3 at 0-2, making this matchup critical as each side searches for its first win. Kansas City hasn't started this poorly since 2014, and with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, the team has never lost three straight games, a streak now in jeopardy. The Chiefs' struggles have been defined by close calls. They lost 27-21 in Week 1 and 20-17 in Week 2, as their offense stuttered in the red zone and lacked explosive plays.

The Giants placed closer Randy Rodríguez on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 23, with an elbow sprain. Keaton Winn was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to take a spot on the active roster. Manager Bob Melvin said Rodríguez is headed for a second opinion (via Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area). It's not known if that means initial evaluation suggested he was facing significant injury or if that's a merely an abundance of caution for any kind of elbow concern.

Chapman is dealing with inflammation in his right hand, and has taken a cortisone shot in an effort to try and return in a minimal amount of time.
