"Chapman was dinged for the error, but the Giants' broadcast showed two replays that revealed Schmitt... reached out for the ball when he should have reached up."
"Keen-eyed viewers noted that it sure looked like the Giants star looked at Schmitt and shouted, 'Catch the f-king ball. Catch the f-king ball.'"
"If it's any consolation to Schmitt, those two mistakes weren't the difference in the game. The Giants would go on to give up five more runs in the eventual 7-1 loss."
During the Giants-Padres game, Matt Chapman criticized teammate Casey Schmitt after Schmitt's error allowed a run to score. Chapman threw a ball that sailed over Schmitt's reach, leading to a double for the Padres. Replays showed Schmitt should have caught the ball. Chapman, seen as a team leader, was visibly upset, shouting at Schmitt. Earlier, Schmitt had also committed an error on a throw from Chapman. Despite the errors, the Giants lost the game 7-1, with the mistakes not being the sole reason for the defeat.
