Did you hear it? That roar of jet engines over San Francisco. The Fleet Week Air Show continued over the city's waterfront Saturday. This year, no U.S. Military planes could take part due to the government shutdown, but spectators still enjoyed the show. "This is the biggest party in San Francisco the whole year," said Glenda McGovern from Healdsburg.
Instead of battling the busy shorelines, hop aboard the Richmond Scenic Ferry from the Richmond Ferry Terminal for a front-row seat to Fleet Week's iconic air show, all while avoiding the hassle of crowded viewing areas. The ferry departs at 3 p.m. and takes you on a leisurely, one-hour route that glides between Angel Island, loops around Alcatraz, and cruises right under the Golden Gate Bridge before arriving in downtown San Francisco at 4 p.m.

Since 2011, the event has included a large-scale earthquake drill -- bringing together military and local agencies to test disaster response. But this year, federal and military support is limited. The drill took place Tuesday at Piers 30/32. Multiple agencies and private companies participated, preparing for a catastrophic event, the scenario was a major, 7.8 earthquake. The exercise focused on how San Francisco would keep communication lines open and supplies moving in the aftermath of a catastrophic event.
