""With the federal government shutdown now in effect, U.S. military participation is currently paused," David Cruise, public affairs officer for San Francisco Fleet Week, told the San Francisco Chronicle. "Even so, Fleet Week is moving forward with confirmed participation from our international partners in Canada and Colombia, and with events taking place across San Francisco." (The Chronicle and SFGATE are both owned by Hearst but have separate newsrooms.)"
"Brian O'Rourke, media officer for Navy Region Southwest, told the Chronicle, they have "temporarily paused" planning for the show. "If there is no speedy resolution, we'll be disappointed we aren't able to attend this year. But planners will begin preparing for Fleet Week 2026 as early as November," he told the outlet."
"Military jets are still slated to be in the air for San Francisco's Fleet Week - just not American ones. Instead, the demonstration squadron for the Canadian air force is scheduled to take flight over San Francisco. Also called the "Snowbirds," the team aims to "showcase the high level of skill, professionalism, teamwork, discipline and dedication inherent in the Canadian Armed Forces." The Snowbirds, Canadian-built Canadair CT-114 Tutors, are known for their extraordinary maneuverability, making for highly entertaining air shows."
San Francisco Fleet Week will continue Oct. 10-12 but the U.S. Blue Angels air show is paused because of the federal government shutdown. The event typically draws over a million attendees and often features the Blue Angels as a finale. U.S. military participation is currently paused while confirmed participation remains from international partners in Canada and Colombia. Navy Region Southwest has temporarily paused planning for the Blue Angels and may begin preparing for Fleet Week 2026 if the shutdown persists. Canadian Snowbirds will perform using Canadair CT-114 Tutors, noted for their maneuverability and entertaining displays.
