Two Fridays ago, the squad signed a statement saying they couldn't carry on like this. And last Friday, the fans who've been through it all before decided they too would walk away. Yet 48 hours later, after another week that proved them right, resisting everything, there they were still, celebrating another implausible success, another day when they had stuck it to The Man.
These dudes do not deserve to wear this uniform, There will be very few of them in it next year. I'm embarrassed for the university. I'm embarrassed for our fans and our student section. It is just ridiculous. It means something to wear a K-State uniform. It means something to put on this purple, and everything this university is about and why I love this place. They don't love this place, so they don't deserve to be here.
I understand the frustration. I won't tell fans what to do. I'd love them to support the players but they have to see effort and commitment in return. Mistakes were punished tonight and that filtered through. There was an anger in the stadium. The lads are trying. The supporters are angry and I get it. It's the toughest league in the world and we came into a team who hadn't won since April. I wasn't anticipating a quick turnaround.
And a somewhat toxic atmosphere at Molineux was not helped when United took the lead soon after with a disastrous goal. Andre dallied on the ball in midfield, Casemiro tackled him and the ball ran on to former Wolves forward Matheus Cunha. He squared the ball for Bruno Fernandes, who slipped in the rain but still had time to get up and somehow squeeze the ball through Sam Johnstone and in.
I have to respect it, I have to understand their frustration and their annoyance but I feel every bit of it as well. It's an amazing opportunity for us as a team to come through this period and grow through it and to be so strong from it. Hopefully, at that point then everyone will come together, we just need to win football matches.
A long weekend of Premier Sports Cup action is in prospect and, for some, there is more than just a semi-final place at stake. Rangers head coach Russell Martin, in particular, and Aberdeen counterpart Jimmy Thelin both desperately need a change in fortunes. And Celtic's hierarchy would find themselves facing renewed criticism should Brendan Rodgers' holders and Scottish Premiership leaders slip up against second-tier Partick Thistle. Here's what to look out for over the next three days.
"And it showed in as clear a message as possible ahead of Sunday's home opener against the New England Patriots. A group of fans strung together the funds to fly a banner over Hard Rock Stadium with a direct message as to their wishes for the franchise's coach, Mike McDaniel, and general manager, Chris Grier. The banner, which appeared starting at around 11 a.m. Sunday as fans were tailgating at stadium parking lots, read: "Fire McDaniel. Fire Grier."
