AC Milan are set to play against Como in Australia next year, and money has been discussed as a factor. However, there may not be much profit there. The decision to take Milan-Como abroad has been a really difficult one for the FIGC. Initially, it seemed they were behind the idea, but now they are facing pressure to change the decision, especially after La Liga did.
Massimo Calvelli is CEO of RedBird International and Operating Partner of RedBird Capital Partners. He holds an important position at RedBird in the sports sector. He joined AC Milan's Board of Directors today. He is a man of sports. He comes from the ATP and spent a number of years in London. RedBird believed he could bring particular value. We see having an Italian in the sports sector as having a highly positive impact.
AC Milan are in the market for a centre-back ahead of the winter window, and there are a few names in their notebook. La Gazzetta dello Sport have published a report that looks at the futures of Yann Bisseck and Strahinja Pavlovic, who are now established starters for Inter and Milan respectively. They mention that Galatasaray are still keen on the Serbian but that a sale is unlikely, given his recent rise.
I'll tell you, without summarising everything, three important things. The first is that we've closed the year in the black for the third consecutive year, after 17 years of Milan not closing in on a profit. I consider that a brilliant result. If I exclude TV rights and player trading, everything else has increased from €90m in 2019 to €240m this year. Everything outside of TV rights and player trading has tripled: something spectacular, which gives me confidence for the future.
At the top of the list is the contract of Alexis Saelemaekers, a valuable player for Massimiliano Allegri, who insisted on retaining him at all costs this summer despite Roma's pressure. The Belgian has a deal that runs until 2027, but work is underway with his entourage to extend it to 2029 at least. Contacts have already taken place and the desire to continue together is evident.

The first reason is simple: Luka Modric. He arrived from Real Madrid and took up a new position (as a Regista) in a new league, one that Milan can dedicate themselves entirely to, with the offshoots of the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana to manage. Modric is like Calhanoglu for Inter and Lobotka for Napoli. He is a player that Juve lacks: someone who receives a pass under pressure, maintains creative possession, calms his team-mates and anticipates the play like a chess master.
An almost perfect game plan executed excellently by Milan, there are several reasons to like the performance against the Giallorossi. Even on a personal level, there was so much to praise from different players. Rafael Leao continued to show his maturity, and the team all played their roles. However, the limelight will go on Mike Maignan for his penalty save and Strahinja Pavlovic, whose time with the Rossoneri is being defined by consistent, strong performances, this time crowned by a goal.
Milan will no doubt be feeling drained of energy after a dramatic win against Roma on Sunday night. Strahinja Pavlovic got the only goal after sprinting 80 metres in 13 seconds to fire in Rafael Leao's feed, while Mike Maignan saved a late Paulo Dybala penalty to preserve the three points. Pulisic and Rabiot at Milanello Peppe Di Stefano spoke live on Sky (via MilanNews) from Milanello this lunchtime.
As was reported in the build-up to the game, Allegri has chosen to name Koni De Winter, Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic as the three centre-backs in the rearguard ahead of the captain Mike Maignan in goal. Alexis Saelemaekers will be the right wing-back facing the club he was on loan at last season, with Davide Bartesaghi on the opposite side. They will flank a midfield trio of Youssouf Fofana, Luka Modric and Samuele Ricci.
