Al-Maida is closed for remodeling with plans to reopen later.
Highwire Coffee in Berkeley is closing due to foot traffic difficulties after ten years.
Royal Rangoon has closed and a new restaurant, Berkeley Burma, will open in its place.

Caspers in Richmond will close May 16 and reopen under new ownership serving hotdogs, while Clove & Hoof is permanently closed and other East Bay restaurants face temporary closures or planned shutdowns.

5 months agoThe East Bay's best new restaurant wins over diners with dedication to the details
Roca, the former general manager at the now-closed Peruvian restaurant Piqueo's in Bernal Heights, manages the front-of-house. Morris, who's worked as a residential remodeling project manager, runs the bar and back-of-house. Roca is Peruvian, but Morris is the cook, and learned about Peruvian cuisine from Roca's family. Roca and Morris, also completely transformed the space, which was formerly a branch of Wise Sons deli. There's a handmade straw octopus hanging above the bar, a quipu suspended like a jellyfish, blue kit-kat tiles.

It has been a great honor to serve you all, meet your children and grandparents, be a part of your most important celebrations, write Babette's staff. We will miss cooking for you all and more than anything, we will miss the beautiful community that has gathered around the Redwood Tree, supported the incredible musicians who we have had the great pleasure to spotlight and our regulars who came for the food, the love and a little bit of grace in these tumultuous times.
