An 18-year-old Watertown man was killed while riding a moped Tuesday morning after authorities said he failed to stop for police in Belmont and ultimately collided with an SUV. The deadly crash occurred at the intersection of Stults Road and Fairview Avenue, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Belmont Interim Police Chief Mark Hurley said in a statement. Belmont police saw the moped driving erratically and on the wrong side of Trapelo Road shortly before 9 a.m.
At about 7:10 p.m., first responders received calls about a crash at 400 Broadway. When they arrived, they found a white Chevy van and a blue Toyota RAV4 that had collided head-on and sustained serious damage, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn's office. The van was "located centered in the northbound lane in the correct direction of travel," officials said. The Toyota "appeared to have crashed into the white van."
Investigators say 89-year-old Klara Litvak, who lived nearby on Surf Avenue, died after being struck just before 1 p.m. Wednesday on Neptune Avenue. Police have identified the woman killed when a car reversed onto a sidewalk in Coney Island, hitting three people. According to police, an 86-year-old man driving a Chrysler SUV was backing out of a parking spot when he put the car in reverse and hit three women.
The 33-year-old driver was identified by the coroner's bureau Friday as Anthony Andres Reynoza Monchez, of Hayward. The passenger was identified by the coroner's bureau as Luis Alberto Deras, 31, of Union City. The fatal crash happened about 5:28 p.m. Thursday on westbound Thornton Avenue near Hickory Street, police said. Upon arrival at the scene, police and Alameda County firefighters located a Toyota Prius that had crashed into a tree, causing the passenger to be ejected.
