It's OK to plan an entire trip around the fact that a place is particularly beautiful, photogenic, or heck, just downright Instagrammable. It's OK to want to appreciate gorgeous things and places and want to share them with your friends, family, and the world at large on social media. And this holiday season, you can make all that happen by heading to one charming and photo-worthy town in Italy.
Growing up in India, I had an idea of Christmas that was entirely shaped by Hallmark movies: snowy streets, warm lights everywhere, and a whole town wrapped in one cozy celebration. Where I live, decorations are mostly limited to malls, and the few Christmas markets are smaller embassy events with entry fees. So, my vision of a charming winter wonderland always felt like a faraway fantasy I hoped to experience someday. Last winter, I finally did.
Just over an hour's drive from Verona is the small town of Asiago, made famous by Asiago cheese. Asiago's Christmas markets transform three city squares Piazza Carli, Piazza Duomo and Piazza II Risorgimento with traditional wooden huts twinkling in lights. Craft-lovers will find a wide selection of handmade objects and decorations, while children will be able to venture into Santa's grotto. In November, the market is open only on the weekends. It will be open every day from December 6th to January 6th.
Just as the days start to become unbearably short and dark, the holiday season kicks in to bring a bit of light and cheer to those cold winter nights. Whether it's warm drinks at the Christmas markets, sharing a hearty meal at home, or observing some of Germany's quirky holiday traditions with your loved ones, there is plenty to enjoy during the winter holiday season.

Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
