Ger Heffernan, a 46-year-old who had been in good shape following a life of athleticism, unexpectedly suffered a heart attack after a vigorous swimming session.
"We conducted an exposome-wide association study, which examines the relationship between a wide range of environmental exposures and health outcomes. The study found significant associations between various modifiable factors and SCA, with lifestyle changes being the most impactful in preventing cases."
Thanks to early intervention, with bystander CPR administered in 79% of witnessed cases and 141 cases receiving a shock from a public automated external defibrillator.
