A 31-year-old man tragically died after experiencing a cardiac arrest while participating in the Brooklyn Half Marathon. The incident occurred eight miles into the race, prompting immediate CPR from medical staff at the scene. Despite being rushed to Maimonides Hospital, he could not be revived. Rob Simmelkjaer, CEO of New York Road Runners, expressed heartfelt condolences to the deceased's family and friends, highlighting the collective grief of the running community. The identity of the runner remains undisclosed pending family notification, and it was noted that this was his first race.
On-site medical staff performed CPR on the man at the scene before transporting him to Maimonides Hospital, where he died.
