An off-duty nurse and local lifeguards saved the life of a 77-year-old man who was found unresponsive at Good Harbor Beach. They performed CPR and used an automated defibrillator before emergency responders arrived. Fortunately, he was breathing and responsive by the time help arrived, leading to a positive outcome. The lifeguards, identified as Missy Lohnes and John Dalone, received thanks from Fire Chief Eric Smith for their swift and effective actions. In a related incident later that day, three children were rescued from the water, highlighting ongoing water safety concerns.
I want to thank them all for their quick, compassionate, and effective response. This patient was already being well cared for when we arrived on scene.
When police and fire personnel did arrive, the man was breathing and responsive on the beach, showing the critical importance of immediate assistance.
