Authorities seek public help to identify a man who abandoned a puppy at an animal urgent care in Mission Viejo.
The owner proceeded to her departure gate. Officers approached her and asked why she left the dog. The woman replied that the airline would not allow her to fly with it, according to a police statement. But police said she did not complete the documents required to travel with an animal. Officers charged her with abandoning an animal, among other counts.
Local News The black, wire-haired terrier mix survived below-freezing temperatures and nearly two feet of snow after being allegedly dumped in a parking lot. A dog that went missing for six days and amid one of Massachusetts' largest snowstorms in years was safely recovered Tuesday, Needham police said. The department first alerted the public Monday in a Facebook post, asking for help locating the black, wire-haired terrier mix that had allegedly been dumped Thursday in a parking lot off Dwight Road.
"They were very uncomfortable with matting," Miott said. "In fact, we couldn't even see the eyes on one of them and it was almost like the dog gave up when the officer picked it up from underneath the car, so it was a really sad situation."
Authorities are seeking to identify a person or people believed to have abandoned five dogs in unkept condition over several days. Animal Services located and took in five similar dogs over a 72-hour period, according to a Saturday social media post from the Fremont Police Department. The dogs are all about 4 years old and none have identification. They appear to be small, fluffy breeds, according to photos.
After receiving treatment at the hospital, the dog was named Ruaidhri. This comes as the animal welfare charity says it is tackling a skyrocketing number of animals being dumped outside. In England and Wales, 24,270 incidents of abandonment were reported marking a 23 per cent increase on last year. To put that into perspective, it means an abandonment incident was reported to the charity's emergency line every nine minutes it was open across the first ten months of this year.
