Urgent plea after dog dumped in sports bag in north London
"After receiving treatment at the hospital, the dog was named Ruaidhri. This comes as the animal welfare charity says it is tackling a skyrocketing number of animals being dumped outside. In England and Wales, 24,270 incidents of abandonment were reported marking a 23 per cent increase on last year. To put that into perspective, it means an abandonment incident was reported to the charity's emergency line every nine minutes it was open across the first ten months of this year."
"As temperatures continue to plummet and dark nights creep in, vulnerable abandoned animals face fresh risks. In the hopes of raising crucial funds for its frontline workers, the charity has launched an urgent appeal, The Big Give Back to Animals fundraiser. Simon Osborne, an RSPCA superintendent, said: It's been an incredibly challenging year for many pets, and we have seen a dramatic and heartbreaking rise in abandonments this year."
A dog was dumped in a sports bag outside Finsbury Park Animal Hospital at around 4am on October 19 and was found seriously ill. After receiving treatment at the hospital, the dog was named Ruaidhri. The RSPCA reports skyrocketing numbers of animals being dumped, with 24,270 incidents of abandonment in England and Wales, a 23 per cent increase on last year. That equates to an abandonment incident reported to the charity's emergency line every nine minutes across the first ten months of the year. The RSPCA expects numbers to climb further over winter as plummeting temperatures and dark nights increase risks for vulnerable abandoned animals, and has launched The Big Give Back to Animals fundraiser to raise funds for frontline rescuers.
