In England and Wales, 24,270 incidents of abandonment were reported marking a 23 per cent increase on last year. To put that into perspective, it means an abandonment incident was reported to the charity's emergency line every nine minutes it was open across the first ten months of this year.

More than 450 neglected animals have been rescued from a farm in Nottinghamshire, with several having to be put to sleep to end their suffering. Farm owner Lee Hayes has been handed a 12-month suspended prison sentence and a lifetime animal ban after 19 different species of animals were rescued, which included around 70 horses and donkeys, more than 50 dogs and 170 guinea pigs.

Fern was found on the beach on 7 August and did not respond even as children approached. This kind of behaviour is very concerning in seals and signals serious exhaustion or illness.
