Throughout his career, Alex Ovechkin has been absolutely money on the power play (...until recently but let's not really talk about that, okay? Happy thoughts only...) - and by the 2013-14 season, Ovechkin was one of just three players in franchise history to have scored at least 20 power-play goals in a single season. The others? Dennis Maruk, who scored exactly 20 in 1981-82, and Peter Bondra, who set the new franchise record in 2000-01 with 22.

Alex Ovechkin is one of the biggest stars in NHL history. But that status has never changed who he is: a pretty normal dude. Ovechkin, who broke the NHL goals record this past April, signed some new items in a recent autograph signing for Fanatics, including photos, jerseys, and pucks - some of which have some special inscriptions.

The NHL Shop sold nearly every Ovechkin jersey he's worn during his career, including the team's red home and white away sweaters; a 50th anniversary jersey featuring the Screaming Eagle on black; and multiple retro jerseys made by Mitchell & Ness, including both of Ovechkin's rookie year jerseys and all three outdoor game sweaters.

Before Gretzky was anywhere close to being in his sights, Alex Ovechkin first had to climb the ladder of the NHL's all-time goal-scorers. It seemed an almost monthly occurrence that he would knock another rung off that ladder - crossing into the 700s and passing Mike Gartner (708), then Phil Esposito (717), Marcel Dionne (731), and Brett Hull (741).

"I thought they were good," Carbery said postgame. "They accomplished what they needed to accomplish. They needed to get through a game and get some game reps. Ovi did that. Marty did that."
