"Sunday, both Sergei and Ilya Ovechkin got on the ice for some youth hockey, as their legendary dad, Alex Ovechkin, watched proudly from the stands. The two mini Ovis were fittingly decked out in their red jerseys and yellow skate laces."
"In one adorable clip posted by Nastya Ovechkina to her Instagram Story, Sergei, wearing number 91 like a mini Sergei Fedorov, scored a beautiful goal after taking the puck from behind his own net and beating the opposing goaltender at the other end of the ice. He then skated to center ice on one leg and lifted his arms to the sky as his dad, well known for his own celebrations, looked back at the camera and laughed."
"Sergei's big goal comes just a few weeks after he and his brother threw down with their dad, Evgeni Malkin, and the two Protas brothers in some hallway hockey the night before a Capitals-Penguins matchup. The hockey-crazed kiddos jumped on the ice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex several times throughout this past season, including when they tried to replicate their dad's iconic hot-stick and belly-flop celebrations after a Capitals practice in March."
""They want me to come back because they love the city, they love the team, they love the boys," Ovechkin said. For now, though, he'll just play hockey dad, as Sergei reminds scouts to keep an eye out for him in the 2036 NHL Draft."
Sergei and Ilya Ovechkin returned to Russia and quickly joined youth hockey on the ice. Alex Ovechkin watched from the stands as the two sons played in red jerseys with yellow skate laces. Sergei scored a goal by taking the puck from behind his own net, beating the opposing goaltender, and celebrating by skating to center ice and raising his arms. The brothers had recently played hallway hockey with Evgeni Malkin and the Protas brothers before a Capitals-Penguins matchup. During the past season, they also played at MedStar Capitals Iceplex and participated in intermission events at Capital One Arena, with Alex present. Alex said his sons’ love for the city, team, and family motivates a possible NHL return, while Sergei’s performance draws attention toward the 2036 NHL Draft.
