Tomorrow, the Atlanta Falcons kick off the 2025 season. If you're nervous, it's hard to blame you. If you're excited, hey, me too. If you're both nervous and excited, by all means, let those nerves jangle for the next 30ish hours. Here's what you need to know to watch the game ahead. Date: Sunday, September 7 Location: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia
Coming off consecutive four-win seasons, the Patriots made moves to fortify just about every glaring weakness. They used the No. 4 overall pick on a potential franchise left tackle in Will Campbell, and doubled down on the offensive line both in the draft (guard Jared Wilson) and free agency (right tackle Morgan Moses). They added much-needed talent at the skill positions in wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Kyle Williams, and Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson.
While the Miami Marlins rebuild might be finished sooner than expected, the Marlins remain far from a finished product. If you wanted to tell the story of the 2025 Miami Marlins in a single sentence, the above would get the job done. If you want to think of them as a homework assignment, "shows promise but needs improvement" is what will get scrawled across the top in red ink. Which is hardly an insult.
Right-hander Beau Brieske has been on Triple-A Toledo's injured list since July 10 due to elbow soreness, and Tigers GM Jeff Greenberg told reporters (including the Detroit News' Chris McCosky) yesterday that the reliever had a setback during a recent bullpen session. As a result, Brieske will be shut down for the next 4-6 weeks, meaning that his 2025 season is all but officially over, barring both a deep Tigers postseason run and a rather improbable activation to a playoff roster.
What Bo Bichette has proven in 2025 is that it is safe to say when he's healthy he is one of the best hitters in MLB. This season he has not only pulled all of his metrics back to his career norms, but he is also achieving some of the highest statistics in his career. Through Tuesday's game (August 26) Bichette was slashing .306/.350/.471 with an .821 OPS and 123 OPS+.
New England Patriots wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk, the 2024 second-round pick who is hoping to rebound from a challenging rookie season in which he was limited to 12 receptions for 87 yards, will undergo shoulder surgery that could threaten his 2025 season, a source confirmed to ESPN. How long the injury ultimately sidelines Polk, and if he could potentially return at some point later in the season, will be contingent on what doctors find in surgery, a source said.
