This project involves the renovation of an 80-year-old house in Ogawa-machi, Saitama Prefecture, previously run as a beauty salon by the client's grandmother. The client, who operated an Italian restaurant in Tokyo, aspires to open a new restaurant there. With the planned removal of the arcade obstructing view and access, the design seeks to create a two-story entrance that enhances the building's presence and functions as a rain shelter, improving the dining experience and reinforcing the structure while enhancing the overall shopping area aesthetic.
The renovation of an 80-year-old house in Ogawa-machi aims to transform the shopping district by creating a restaurant that celebrates its architectural heritage.
Removing the arcade has revealed the buildings' heights and allowed a new entrance design, merging external space and enhancing the pedestrian experience in the district.
The new entrance serves multiple purposes: it creates an appealing building facade, provides shelter from rain, and reinforces the existing structure of the restaurant.
This project not only revitalizes a historic property but also fosters a cozy atmosphere that balances visibility and intimacy within the restaurant's seating areas.
