Footage showed passengers escaping through the plane’s doors in freezing conditions as thick smoke billowed. Twenty-one people were hospitalized, including three critically, while others managed to exit the aircraft following the incident. The flight had originated from Minneapolis, and the cause is yet to be determined. In audio from the air traffic communications, the plane was described upside down and burning moments after impact, with passengers exiting the aircraft as plumes of thick black smoke poured from the burning fuselage.
Peter Carlson, a passenger on the plane, told the Toronto Star the crash felt like he had smacked into a wall before passengers were flipped sideways.
