Fire broke out in a home on Trethewey Drive at about 1:05 a.m., with firefighters finding heavy flames and smoke upon arrival, leading to a tragic outcome.
Toronto Fire Deputy Chief Jim Jessop confirmed that firefighters managed to rescue a woman and a young infant, but the infant unfortunately did not survive after being rushed to the hospital.
Despite the tragic loss of life, it was reported that up to four other occupants in the house managed to escape unharmed during the incident.
Authorities have reported that the Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified and will conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire that devastated the family.
