Cecilia Alemani details her character-driven curatorial approach for next Site Santa Fe International
Briefly

The 12th edition of the Site Santa Fe International biennial, titled Once Within a Time, begins on June 27 and features over 300 works from more than 70 artists, many commissioned by curator Cecilia Alemani. The exhibition is themed around storytelling, with 25 figures from New Mexico’s history and mythology serving as inspiration. It includes a surrealistic film by Godfrey Reggio and works by significant artists such as N. Scott Momaday and Simone Leigh. Key sections focus on various aspects of storytelling, including the erotic and the uncanny, through diverse artistic expressions.
"These people will function as punctuation in a show that is very much about storytelling and uses the lived experience or existential adventures of these characters as a starting point."
"I thought it was a powerful metaphor for the show," says Alemani, referencing the circular possibilities of stories in relation to the exhibition's narrative.
