Out of both horror and curiosity, I tried to order a caviar-topped slice - alas, they were out of it. But it felt like a sign. I thought the city had reached peak caviar back in 2022, but it's far from slowing down. Now, it's going mainstream and casual.
Caviar has taken off nationally over the past few years, particularly among Gen Z and millennials, thanks in part to TikTok. Influencer Danielle Matzon's videos of her snacking on Doritos and caviar, caviar on Fitness Bread and other highbrow-lowbrow combinations gathered millions of views on the platform in 2022.
