At Sirene, fire-roasted seafood is served with a whole lot of sole
Briefly

A new seafood restaurant named Sirene has opened in Oakland at 3308 Grand, taking over the space previously occupied by a pizzeria called Sister. The restaurant, launched by chefs Gavin Schmidt and Paul Einbund, features a rustic yet elegant atmosphere, highlighting local seafood with a carefully curated wine list. Schmidt's passion for seafood stems from his upbringing near the ocean, where fishing and boating were integral to his childhood. His career began in the restaurant industry, leading him to collaborate with Einbund after they both worked at a fine dining restaurant in San Francisco.
"Going crabbing and clamming as a kid, and always being out on boats - it's something that I grew up very immersed in," he said.
"We'd both come from tasting menu-only fine dining restaurants. And the more we talked about it, the more we would go out and eat and drink together..."
"Sirene exudes a strain of understated elegance that marries urban grit with rustic, farm-to-table charm."
