Lord Alan Sugar urges an end to remote working, asserting that employees must return to the office for effective collaboration and learning, particularly for apprentices. His comments reflect a broader concern among employers about a potential decline in productivity connected to remote work culture. While acknowledging exceptions for certain roles, Sugar highlights the detrimental effects of too much remote work on younger employees and the economy, emphasizing that workplace interaction is essential for developing skills and proper work ethics.
The only way an apprentice is going to learn, is from his colleagues. It's small things, like interaction with your more mature colleagues, that will tell you how to do this, how to do that. That is lacking in this work-from-home, zoom culture.
