Venezuelan migrant who pleaded guilty to kicking cop in Times Square melee mysteriously skips sentencing - after judge let her out to 'bond with her baby'
Briefly

Edgarlis Vegas, a 21-year-old Venezuelan migrant, was set to be sentenced for attacking a police officer during a Times Square altercation but failed to appear in court. Her attorney revealed she would not come to the sentencing, where she was supposed to receive a year-long term after pleading guilty to kicking an officer. Vegas had been released to bond with her newborn shortly after her plea. The judge issued a bench warrant for her arrest, as she had previously attended all her court appearances. Surveillance footage captured her assault on the officer, despite her initial claims of simply watching the event unfold.
Vegas was initially being held on $25,000 bail, but was freed by Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Laura Ward to allow her to bond with her baby.
Her attorney, Eric Bernstein, indicated that Edgarlis Vegas was not going to show up for her scheduled sentencing without providing a reason.
Despite being previously compliant with her court appearances, Vegas skipped out on her sentencing, prompting Judge Ann Thompson to issue a bench warrant for her arrest.
Captured on surveillance, Vegas admitted to attacking an officer during a scuffle, though she initially claimed she was just a bystander.
