NY man says he was blackout drunk when he beat his drinking buddy to death on sidewalk: 'I've tried to remember'

Jare Diaz, 26, faces murder charges for the alleged fatal beating of his friend Otoniel Guzman Desdicho during a drunken night. Despite repeatedly watching security footage of the incident, Diaz claims he cannot remember the assault. He expressed deep distress over personal issues, including his wife's departure with their child, which led to heavy drinking with Desdicho. Witnesses reportedly saw the pair engage in a shoving match before Diaz brutally attacked Desdicho, who later died from his injuries three days later.

Diaz said he was distraught on the night of the attack after his wife left him and took their young son over his heavy drinking and marijuana use.

Since the first day I was in jail until now I've tried to remember but I've been unable.

Two cameras captured the confrontation, including from an East Post Road laundromat, which showed the two getting into a drunken shoving match before Diaz allegedly attacked his friend.

He is accused of kicking and punching Desdicho 34 times, and at one point dragged him along the ground, leaving the victim mortally injured.
