Man who kidnapped his niece and nephew planned to take them to 'heaven,' police say

The Upland Police Department alerted the public about a kidnapped case concerning a 34-year-old man who attempted to take his niece and nephew to 'heaven,' resulting in his arrest.

During the police chase, the suspect was apprehended in a shopping center parking lot after leading officers on a short pursuit, following a tip from the children’s mother about his unstable condition.

After his arrest, the suspect spontaneously expressed a desire to take the children to heaven, prompting police to ensure the children's safety by taking them to the hospital for precautionary checks.

The police shared an edited video on X showcasing the intense moments leading up to the suspect's arrest, including clips from body cam footage and images of the children.
