A 26-year-old East Gwillimbury man is facing charges of second-degree murder and indignity to a dead body after human remains found in Kawartha Lakes were confirmed to be those of missing woman Ying Zhang.
Zhang's body was found in the Village of Kirkfield, approximately 140 kilometers northeast of Toronto, following an extensive search. The accused had initially been facing charges of kidnapping, forcible confinement, and aggravated assault.
The remains were discovered near a roadway during a ground search, and her family had reported her disappearance after she failed to return home from work in July. Police are seeking information from witnesses who may have seen a white Ford van driven by the accused.
