On February 17, 2025, a 56-year-old man was fatally shot outside a bodega in the Belmont neighborhood of the Bronx after a reported argument. Police responded to gunfire around 6:21 p.m. and found the victim unconscious from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite efforts by EMS, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. This incident is now being investigated by the Bronx detectives and is the second murder in the 48th Precinct this year, with no suspects arrested yet.
Police sources suggested the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation moments before, but the investigation is ongoing as no arrests have yet been made.
Emergency Medical Services rushed the victim, a 56-year-old man, to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
