Salil Mehta, the prolific restaurateur, behind spots like Kebab aur Sherab and Laut Singapora, now has Kanyakumari.It replaces his Peranakan spot, Kebaya, which only opened in the storefront last February. Kanyakumari, named after the city, focuses on Southern Indian cooking.
The Grain, a subterranean bar tucked beneath Korean barbecue restaurant Barn Joo, opened on January 25, a revival of a concept the team previously ran elsewhere. Barn Joo first opened in Koreatown in 2013 and has since spawned two more locations. The Grain is now located below the East 16th Street outpost.
