Ed, an IT delivery manager at the ONS, states, "We've never been told by senior leaders at the ONS that there is a problem with productivity... We will never see this opportunity again."
The ONS argues that while remote work is valuable, "face-to-face interaction helps to build working relationships, supports collaboration, and innovation" in the workplace.
Union members, including those at the ONS, are threatening to strike if forced to spend 40% of their time in the office, highlighting the rising tensions.
Despite the push for in-office work, it's becoming clear that full-time office presence is now viewed as a relic of the past.
