Hyman has seen Rent the Runway through its highs—like the late 2010s, when its unlimited subscription service had started to become ubiquitous in certain markets—and its lows, like the cratering of its business during COVID shortly thereafter. Hyman maintains that despite the exhaustion she's felt, her belief in the company keeps her at the helm. She asks herself two crucial questions: 'Is she tired?' and 'Do I still believe?' This introspection fuels her determination to revitalize the company.
To rejuvenate the company, Hyman approached the new year with a fresh perspective, treating herself as a new CEO. She reorganized the company to embrace its original spirit, focusing on 'cross-functional startups' to cut down bureaucracy. 'The number one thing that I wanted to change was pace and agility,' Hyman explains. By hiring new executives, including a CMO, she aims to invest in marketing, which had previously been neglected during the crisis.
