YouTube, founded in 2005, has become a dominant platform in content consumption, surpassing $10 billion in ad revenue for the first time. As CEO Neal Mohan noted, the platform's user engagement has consistently outpaced major competitors like Netflix and Prime Video. Recent Nielsen reports show YouTube's share hit a record 11.1% in December, with more people now using connected TVs to watch content. This marks a significant shift, as television is becoming synonymous with YouTube for many viewers.
In December's report YouTube's share was a record high share of 11.1% with an increase of 7% from the previous month.
According to Nielsen's monthly Gauge Report, YouTube has, for the past two years, amassed a higher share of usage than any other streaming provider including Netflix and Prime Video.
Mohan noted that, 'For more and more people, watching TV means watching YouTube,' as U.S. television has now surpassed mobile as the primary way people watch YouTube.
Twenty years later YouTube is more popular than ever, with ad sales revenue exceeding $10 billion for the first time.
