Is Your New Year's Resolution Setting You Up for Failure?
Briefly

Instead of fostering self-compassion and growth, resolutions can leave individuals feeling stuck in a narrative of inadequacy. The expectation to become a "new person" in a short span of time often disregards the complexities of real life, where setbacks, adjustments, and moments of doubt are inevitable.
As a therapist, I began questioning the utility of New Year's resolutions. They seemed to foster a pass-or-fail mindset that left little room for growth, nuance, or the realities of life.
What they needed was a framework that honored their humanity – a way to pursue growth that wasn’t about perfection, but about learning, evolving, and taking meaningful action.
New Year's resolutions often emphasize outcomes – losing weight, saving a set amount of money, or becoming a "better" person – without accounting for the journey required to achieve those outcomes.
