"If you're demoralized by the election, there's actually some value in showing some level of sadness or disappointment, as it teaches kids that emotions are normal and OK to express," said the therapist, who has a 9-year-old daughter. "If my 9-year-old sees me sad or frustrated, I'd explain, 'I feel this way because I care so much about the future and about fairness.'"
"I told her that nothing will happen to us, but we have to be aware of our surroundings and how people may feel like they can treat us out in public," she said. "I also told her that we need to just pray for the undocumented people in this country and how the economy will change if they are forced to leave. I try to be very open with her."
