On Sunday night, an East Bay man, Ronald Dale Simpson, was arrested after cutting through a fence at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, armed with burglary tools. Authorities responded to a report of a suspicious person seen with bolt cutters. Upon spotting deputies, he fled toward Interstate 280, but was eventually found hiding in shrubbery. The search of the area uncovered numerous burglary tools and a damaged security fence, indicating his intent to break in.
Deputies from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office received a call around 8:30 p.m. about a suspicious individual on the grounds of the lab, leading to the discovery of Ronald Dale Simpson. Despite running away, Simpson's hiding spot was located by deputies with the help of a police dog. He was subsequently booked for several charges, including attempted burglary and vandalism, while also being linked to previous auto theft arrest warrants.
