Sir Sadiq Khan faces pressure to ban Shein's advertising on London's transport due to the company's alleged human rights violations, including forced labour and environmental concerns. The call for action coincides with a judicial review launched by Stop Uyghur Genocide aimed at halting Shein's IPO in London. Despite Shein's claim to prohibit forced labour, the company's transparency regarding its supply chains has been heavily criticized, particularly regarding cotton sourced from China's Xinjiang region, known for its forced labour issues involving Uyghur people.
The assembly member's concerns were raised in the same week that the campaign group Stop Uyghur Genocide launched a judicial review to prevent Shein's Initial Public Offering (IPO) listing on the London Stock Exchange.
In written evidence to MPs, Shein later said it only allows cotton from approved regions, which do not include China, for its products sold in the U.S.
