Tom Trotter, a 29-year-old fitness coach, shares his journey from an obsessive and restrictive workout lifestyle to a healthier relationship with food. As a child and young adult, Trotter was highly active and engaged in rugby, but his intense commitment to fitness led to unhealthy habits that caused him to become underweight. He reflects on his former belief that worth was tied to leanness, and now embraces the idea of food as fuel, allowing himself to enjoy life and delicious meals while still prioritizing his health.
I know that food is fuel and if I want to perform my best, I need to eat enough. Also, life's too short not to enjoy delicious food and drink.
It's a work in progress and I've come a long way, but I wouldn't change it for anything.
I had tunnel vision. I used to think my worth came from being as lean as possible.
Rugby culture was work hard, play hard.
